What is Ortho-Bionomy?
Ortho-Bionomy is a non-invasive system of healing that is ideally suited to addressing many pain and stress conditions. It was developed by Dr Arthur Lincoln Pauls, a British osteopath, and works by supporting the self-correcting capacity that we have within us all and which we rely on in order to move and function.
Ortho-Bionomy engages this capacity through the use of gentle movement and positioning of your body combined with light compression into your joints. This engages the sensory feedback mechanisms that inform your sense of yourself in space and gives feedback about what is happening in your joints, muscles, tendons and fascia – the proprioceptive sense. With this information your body is able to recognise what is happening and will respond in a way that reduces the tension, the pain and any associated inflammation – which allows further healing to occur. Ortho-Bionomy stimulates long lasting change by re-educating how your body responds so that you are able to adjust appropriately to the forces that are being acted upon it. In this way you can effectively maintain balance and optimal functioning on your own.
Those who have received a session of Ortho-Bionomy often report experiencing relief from their pain, increased range of motion, greater ease of motion, better structural alignment and postural balance, increased sense of relaxation, more efficient functioning, faster recovery times from injuries, a greater sense of self empowerment, increased vitality and emotional balance, and an increased sense of wholeness and wellbeing.
